VIRTUAL RACE ON May 1, 2021

It's

Y'all!

Become a sea turtle ambassador and race for a cause.

To ensure the health and safety of all participants, the 2021 Turtle Crawl race will be held virtually. Run with us on May 1, 2021, from your favorite stretch of sand or pavement, as we celebrate the start of sea turtle nesting season.

Since 2003, participants from across the world have taken part in the annual Turtle Crawl event, all in the name of supporting the Georgia Sea Turtle Center’s mission of sea turtle rehabilitation, research, and education. In that time, participants have raised more than $100,000 to help sea turtles thrive and survive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Race with us from your favorite stretch of sand or pavement in place of attending an in-person race with other runners. And, a virtual race provides for more flexibility so if you decide you want to sleep in a little longer, you can begin your race at anytime. Although this is a virtual event, we encourage you (and your family!) to visit picturesque Jekyll Island to run on your own! You can find recommended race routes on this webpage above. Run along the beachfront or through our maritime forest with breathtaking views! Just remember to stay on the established multi-use paths and off of any roadways to ensure your safety.

You certainly can! You can select the Ghost Crawler option through the registration link to leave donations in increments of $5.

Of course! Anyone is welcome to participate in this year’s virtual race. Although it is listed as a 5K race, you can race as much or as little as you’d like, knowing your participation helps support the life-saving work of the Georgia Sea Turtle Center and sea turtle habitats on the Georgia coast. As a reminder when selecting your t-shirts, they are available in adult unisex S-XXL shirt sizes. We do not have youth sizes available this year.

For the health and safety of visitors, we are not holding public turtle releases at this time. However, if temperatures are just right and we have a sea turtle patient healthy enough to return home, we hope to be able to film a release and share it with those who participate in the race as a special thank you!

We do not have any special registration discounts this year.

We certainly hope so! It has always been our goal that participants have the ability to see the life-saving work of the Georgia Sea Turtle Center first-hand and as soon as it is safe to return to in-person races, we plan to do so. In the meantime, we hope you’ll find time to visit the Center this year and say hello to our new sea turtle patients undergoing rehabilitation!
