October 28-30, 2015

Georgia Bulldog Great

Rodney Hampton

Rodney Hampton (Georgia: 1987-89): One of the greatest tailbacks in Georgia football history. In three victories against Florida, Hampton carried 62 times for 288 yards, caught two passes for 33 yards and scored two TD’s. The Houston, Texas native rushed for 2,668 career yards and his 3,582 career all-purpose yards both still hold a top ten ranking in Georgia history. Hampton was a first team All-SEC selection and second team All-America choice in 1989. He was a first round draft choice of the New York Giants in 1990 and played on their 1991 Super Bowl championship team. Hampton was also a two-time Pro Bowl selection.

Florida Gator Great

Mike Shanahan

Mike Shanahan (Florida: 1980-1983): Before becoming a Super Bowl champion, Mike Shanahan was an innovative, record setting coach in college. During his four seasons as Florida’s offensive coordinator, the Gators posted a 32-15-1 record, went to four straight bowl games, was nationally ranked three times, and increased their offensive point total each year. In his tenure, the Gators defeated six ranked teams compared to only five victories vs. ranked opponents in the previous decade. But, Shanahan never beat Georgia losing three classic contests (1980, 1981, 1983) by a combined total of 11 points. As a 20 year NFL head coach, he posted 170 wins including Super Bowl titles in 1997 and 1998 with the Denver Broncos. Shanahan is one of only six head coaches in NFL history to win consecutive Super Bowls.

“We look forward to again welcoming our celebrities and big crowds to Jekyll Island for the Georgia-Florida Golf Classic. The Classic has been an integral part of Jekyll for three and-a-half decades and is just as unique as the Georgia-Florida rivalry itself. It is a great time of fun, food and fellowship with those wearing Red & Black or Orange & Blue.”
