Winter Itinerary

Winter Wonderland, redefined.

The dead of winter doesn’t exist here. Whether it’s a peaceful stroll down one of our expansive, pristine beaches, an invigorating bike ride through 20 miles of paths and trails, or an inspiring journey through decades gone by, any season is the perfect time to visit Jekyll Island.

Chill Outside

Driftwood Beach Park – A beach trip in the winter? Absolutely! Family fun is always in season on Driftwood Beach. Bring a picnic and a camera. Ancient driftwood monuments and gorgeous sunsets will have you snapping pictures left and right as the kids laugh and play on this unique beach that is rich in charm and character.

Located at the north end of the island, Driftwood Beach is an escape to another world. It’s also a year-round pet-friendly beach, but please  keep your furry friends on a leash.

GSTC Behind the Scenes Tour – Here’s your chance to go behind the scenes and learn more about the science, care, and compassion that goes into treating our endangered sea turtles. You’ll be guided by a member of the Georgia Sea Turtle Center’s education staff who will give you a closer look at our patients as well as the intricate and intriguing process of helping these natural treasures make a full recovery.

Biking – If only your daily commute could be this spectacular. Jekyll Island has more than 22 miles of scenic bike paths and trails just waiting to be explored. These paths are organized into routes that take you through a variety of natural attractions, historical sites, and breathtaking scenery.

Live in the Past

Christmas Twilight Tours – History and the holidays combine to create one magical experience during this captivating trolley ride through Jekyll Island’s past. Illuminated by Christmas lights and the glamour of our National Historic Landmark District, the tour includes a stop at Faith Chapel and culminates with holiday treats and a sunset view from one of our historic cottages.

Moss Cottage at Christmas

Twilight Tours are special evening excursions in the historic district. Each cottage is outfitted with special holiday decorations while lights adorn the ancient oaks.

Comfort, Food

Jekyll Island Seafood Company – Enjoy a dining experience that is as relaxing and refreshing as its natural surroundings. Jekyll Island Seafood Company captures everything you love about our inviting island and incorporates into its locally inspired dishes and décor. While other parts of the country battle the winter chill, you can revel in the warmth of our ambiance and hospitality.

Jekyll Island Seafood Company

Located in the heart of Beach Village, Jekyll Island Seafood Company serves up the region’s favorite dishes, including seafood gumbo, shrimp & grits, and Southern fried chicken, all with an ocean view.

Winter Can Be So Cool

Island Treasures – Over a century ago, fishermen used hollow glass balls as floats to mark their nets. When they broke loose, beachcombers would collect these unique treasures. Today, the tradition continues, although in a slightly more interesting and artistic way. It’s now a hide-and-seek style game where local artists from across the country create glass floats for our annual Island Treasures event.

Island Treasures

Island Treasures is the ultimate hide-and-seek game, Jekyll Island style. An afternoon of treasure hunting is the perfect way to shake off any winter blues.

Whiskey, Wine & Wildlife – The name says it all. Please your palate and support the Jekyll Island Foundation during this deliciously unique experience. This weekend event features inspired cuisine from some of the South’s top chefs, live music, wine, spirits, craft beer, as well as a closer look at coastal wildlife such as sea turtles and alligators. It’s a good time for a great cause.

Stay in Style

Holiday Inn Resort – This isn’t the Holiday Inn you grew up knowing. Reopened in 2015 after undergoing a $21 million transformation, the Holiday Inn Resort offers guests the best views of the Atlantic Ocean as well as a variety of activities including cocktail parties, movie nights, and more. Skip the summer crowds and experience everything that Jekyll Island has to offer at the Holiday Inn Resort this winter.

The Westin – An oceanfront retreat seems especially satisfying when the crowds are smaller. Spacious, modern accommodations, gourmet dining, and Westin’s signature amenities transport you to a world where you rule the day (and night). Conveniently located near the island’s best shopping, dining, and year-round activities, you’ll understand why ‘the dead of winter’ has no place here.
