Summer Itinerary

Meet your summer love.

Once you embrace it, it never leaves you. Jekyll Island welcomes you back year after year, inviting you to discover something new and relive the thrill of previous visits. Here, summer is more than a dip in the pool or a stroll down the beach; it’s an experience that draws you in and holds on tight.

Everything Under the Sun

Great Dunes Beach Park – This is what summer is all about: family picnics, volleyball, and building sand castles while the Atlantic Ocean gently kisses the shore. For your convenience, it also features ample parking as well as showers and restrooms. There’s no doubt why this 20-acre, beachfront park is Jekyll Island’s most popular beach for families.

GSTC Beach Programs – The beach can be more than relaxing; it can also be inspiring and educational. The Georgia Sea Turtle Center offers seasonal programs that provide amazing opportunities for families, guests, and groups to learn about sea turtles along the Georgia coast. Be a marine biologist for an evening, seeking out nesting loggerheads. Or, take the morning shift, with the chance to see a newly-hatched sea turtle nest.

Summer Waves – For unbelievable summer fun, just add water – millions of gallons of it. Summer Waves Water Park gives kids of all ages a way to beat the heat and laugh the day away with a variety of rides ranging from lazy rivers to high-speed thrills.

Summer Waves

Shark Tooth Cove is the newest attraction at Summer Waves, featuring 10 slides, dump buckets, and a zero-entry pool.

Blasts from the Past

Gun Mounts – These mysterious cannon emplacements are a fading echo from the days of the Spanish-American War. Some say there are more yet to be discovered in the shifting sands and underbrush of Jekyll Island. Let us know if you spot them while you’re exploring the pathways around St. Andrews Beach Park.

Rockefeller Experience – Travel back in time and experience a taste of the finer things in life as you explore the spacious, private retreat of William and Almira Rockefeller. Elegant and charming, this period-restored cottage is a lasting testament to everything this aristocratic family loved about Jekyll Island.

Shorts, Sandals & Spectacular Events

Independence Day Celebrations – The spirit of independence burns bright during our festivities. From old-fashioned patriotic parades to thundering displays of fireworks, Jekyll Island knows how to stir your soul and celebrate the red, white, and blue with the reverence and grandeur that the occasion deserves.

Independence Day Parade

The Jekyll Island Independence Day Parade is the perfect way to celebrate America’s Birthday. This patriotic parade includes bikes, golf carts, strollers, and pets and winds through Jekyll Island’s historic district.

Movie on the Green – The best place to catch a family movie isn’t always in a theater. Grab a blanket or some lawn chairs and join us on the Village Green for an outdoor experience that makes you wonder whether the movie or the location is the real feature presentation. Plus, the event is free for the entire family.

Summer Camps – Jekyll Island is a kid’s paradise, especially during summer. Our camps take what your child enjoys – whether it’s golf, tennis, sea turtles, or history – and turns it into one of the most exciting-yet-educational experiences they’ve ever had. Parents are free to enjoy a little downtime or do some exploring of their own while our staff of professionals keep your kids intrigued and entertained.
