Jekyll Island Convention Center (JICC) staff take great pride in being the caretakers and caregivers for the Center that opened May 2012. When someone walks into our facility, their reaction is: ‘WOW’. To that end, we know that one of the first things one notices is the cleanliness. Here are some specific measures that have been a part of our service all along, as well as new procedures going forward.
First and foremost, we are closely monitoring government policy changes, Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines, government mandates, and public health advancements and will continue to make changes as necessary or appropriate to our protocols and procedures. The Jekyll Island Convention center uses cleaning products and protocols which meet the EPA guidelines and are approved for use and effective against viruses, bacteria and other airborne and blood-borne pathogens.
Our goal is to ensure the safety of our guests but also our employees. Going forward all the ASM employees will be wearing masks as they meet the public. This is to protect the staff as well as our guests.
Our bathrooms are a source of pride with their cleanliness, but we will now be logging in the attendant’s attention to the restrooms. We will be wiping down all the stalls, the counters, the mirrors, the soap dispensers, and cleaning the floors at a minimum of once an hour. That said -when we have large groups in house, we have staff assigned full time which has been our standard protocol.
We have an extensive number of doors throughout the facility. All the hardware will be wiped down on a continuous basis. When the interior doors can be opened, we will encourage the event to allow them to remain open therefore further reducing the need to touch. Though the exterior doors can’t remain open they too will have their hardware wiped down on a continuous basis.
Center for Disease Control recommends the best way to beat COVID-19 is to thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water. However, when that isn’t convenient the JICC has free standing hand sanitizers throughout the facility. They will be checked multi times a day to ensure they stay full and working. They will be placed by any food & beverage set up – including meals and breaks.
JICC excels in its food service. Our kitchen and its staff have never scored anything other than 100 during unannounced inspections by the Glynn County Health Department inspectors. Our staff has always maintained proper food handling, proper clothing including hats or hairnets, gloves, and masks when needed. A change to their already high standards is masks will become their new accessory.
JICC will work with the event planner to determine how they want their food service to be handled. We will be able to serve the attendees from a buffet with our staff rather than normal self-service. We can use prepared roll-ups for flatware (napkin rolled with fork/knife/spoon) instead of tables being fully set. We can use eco-friendly paper and plastic products if a client prefers with pre-packaged plasticware. We will be able to provide any kind of food service that the client would feel more comfortable with for their event. Learn more about our food service and the measures we’re taking.
For our breakout sessions, we will use an electrostatic sprayer/tagger to sanitize all the tables and chairs in the meeting room. This method will dry within minutes and leaves no residue, just a clean sanitized meeting room. This gives us the ability to ensure safety and sanitation between sessions so each attendee knows the space is clean.
The frequency of air filter replacement and HVAC system cleaning has been increased and fresh air exchange will be maximized.
Each of the JICC staff members will be required to check-in with their department manager or director at the beginning of their shift. There a health assessment will be given to ensure the employee is healthy and ready to take on their tasks as assigned.
All these steps are standard protocol for our facility but “beefed up.” Again, the beautiful Jekyll Island Convention Center is a place for learning, networking, and connecting with friends. We don’t want you to have to worry about your well-being due to your surroundings. Let us take care of that. All we ask is that you come and enjoy—but be healthy yourself while you visit.
