Many legendary African American athletes have come to play on Jekyll Island. These trailblazers included many heroes of the Civil Rights Movement, who battled discrimination and fought for the right to compete. Hear from Dr. Lane Demas, Author of ‘Game of Privilege: An African American History of Golf’ and professor of history at Central Michigan University, who will explore the history of integrating golf courses in the Southeast. Learn about the Civil Rights movement for golfing on Jekyll Island and the beginning of the Southeastern Golf Tournament, the first integrated golf tournament to take place on the island.
