Ranger Walks: Maritime Forest Ecology and Bald Eagle Nest Viewing
This 45 – 90 minute walking tour is led by an experienced island naturalist and offers the unique opportunity to walk down a historic trail through one of the island’s most diverse habitats and view an active bald eagle nest. The tour is spent learning the trail’s history, identifying the unique vegetation communities, describing the different types of plants found in each habitat, attempting to spot a variety of local wildlife, seeing examples of active wildlife research efforts, and viewing the bald eagle nest through a spotting scope while discussing bald eagle life history and nesting biology.
When: Saturdays, December – March at 10 AM and 3 PM
Location: The Old Infirmary located at 101 Old Plantation Rd. just off of Stable Rd. in the Jekyll Island Historic District.
Cost: $8 per person
