Santa Stops By Georgia Sea Turtle Center This Saturday

Santa is coming to town! Or rather, Santa is coming to the island! This Saturday, December 15, Santa will trade in his reindeer for the sea turtles at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center at the 4th annual Santa & the Sea Turtle’s Sea-son’s Spectacular. The afternoon event is a great opportunity for children to share their holiday wishes with the Jolly Man himself, while also learn about the intricate mysteries of our oceans.

The Brunswick News wrote about the seasonal showcase in today’s edition of the Life section. Below, read the article by Brittney Tate, then make plans to join us for the shell-e-bration this Saturday!

You have heard of Santa Claus and his reindeer. How about Santa Claus and the sea turtles?

Saturday, you can catch Santa and Mrs. Claus bringing the joy of Christmas to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, 214 Stable Road, Jekyll Island, at the event, Santa and the Sea Turtles.

During the event, Santa will be meeting with children and bringing Christmas cheer to the sea turtles.

Kristin Lee, education specialist at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, says there will be an opportunity for children to make ornaments for their Christmas trees, as well as to learn about sea turtles being treated at the center.

Lee also says children will learn how to protect turtles’ habitat, which can save the endangered species found off the coast of Jekyll Island.

“There will be a presentation over the microphone about (the sea turtles), how they are doing, how they got there and how they are being rehabilitated.”

In addition to learning the statuses of 11 sea turtles being treated at the center, children will see a puppet show, called “Scute’s Christmas Adventure,” which is filled with turtle-style holiday songs.

There will also be a Toys for Tots bin, where any guest who brings in a toy will get $1 off admission.

“We’ve been doing this (Christmas event) for four years now, and it’s an opportunity to visit Santa and bring visitors into our center,” Lee said. “There was a need we saw we could fill, and we hope that (previous) guests will come back, but also new guests who will come to Jekyll Island to visit.
