Jekyll Island has been a heralded golf destination since 1898, when members of the Jekyll Island Club created the Island's first golf course. In the decades that have followed, Jekyll island has maintained its reputation are one of the premiere golfing destinations in the nation, attracting acclaimed golf course designers such as Walter Travis and Joe Lee, among others.
In 1886, Jekyll Island was purchased to become an exclusive winter retreat for America's most elite families, known as the Jekyll Island Club. For more than half a century, the nation's leading families, including the Rockefellers, Morgans, Pulitzers, and Goulds came to Jekyll Island "to secure an escape.
Jekyll Island, the nearest faraway place, is known for its family-friendly atmosphere, natural beauty and fabulous golf. The next chapter in its rich golf history will be written March 14-16 with the annual Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational, America’s largest college golf tournament.
