Plus Fours Invitation

Jekyll Island will celebrate the heritage and culture of Jekyll Island golf with the 3rd Annual Plus Fours Golf Celebration Nov. 10th at Jekyll Island’s historic Great Dunes golf course.

The Plus Fours Historic Golf Tournament brings history to life as golfers will be asked to play in period costume, reminiscent of the early 1900s. This includes “plus fours”, sweater vests and argyle socks for the men; long skirts and button down shirts for the ladies. Participating players will be provided a set of authentic hickory shaft golf clubs and gutta percha balls for a round of nine holes, set back in time.

“One aspect to our annual celebration we wanted to focus on year after year was preserving the accurate history surrounding the “Plus Fours” golf era. Last year, the celebration was such a hit among our participants, we are looking forward to revisiting the nostalgia of the era again,” added Eric Garvey, Jekyll Island Authority Senior Director of Marketing.

The tournament cost per person is $45, which includes breakfast, including bloody marys and mimosas, lunch at Blackbeard’s seafood restaurant, rental fee for hickory shaft golf clubs and balls, green fees for Great Dunes Historic Golf Course, and awards.

Come out and enjoy this historic golf experience! Register by calling the pro shop at 912-635-2368.

Santa Throws the Magic Dust to Light the Tree!

Christmas comes to the coast as Jekyll Island rings in the Christmas season at its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Festival, November 24, in the Jekyll Island Landmark Historic District. Festivities begin at 4:00 p.m. and continue until the lighting of the Christmas tree and fireworks finale at 7:00 p.m.

On Jekyll Island, the temperatures don’t frequently dip below freezing, but with the magic of the holidays, the lawn in front of the San Souci Cottage will become a Christmas wonderland complete with mounds of white snow, Santa, and lots of Christmas fun. Kids of all ages will be able to make Christmas crafts such as tree ornaments, sand art, candle art, Christmas cards and more. Plus the whole family can enjoy a Holiday Hayride through the Historic District , shop among the many vendors, and sip cocoa while listening to great holiday musical favorites.
