Jekyll Island’s abundance of unspoiled natural beauty – from its richly preserved maritime forests to its pristine dune systems to its 10 miles of tidal beaches – is perhaps best appreciated with the assistance and guidance of an experienced Jekyll Island staffers and volunteers.

Nature Walks from Tidelands Nature Center
Join an experienced guide for a 1 1/2- 2 hour walk through the beach, forest, and marsh, on Jekyll.

Mon. - Clam Creek Picnic Area
Marsh and north-end beach walk. Meets at the Clam Creek parking lot, north end of island, opposite campground. (Year-round)

Wed. - St. Andrews Picnic Area
Marsh, maritime forest, and south-end beach walk. Meets at the St. Andrews parking lot. (Year-round)

Fri. - South Dunes Picnic Area
Maritime forest and beach walk. Meets at South Dunes parking lot. (March - September only)

Nature Walks are held Monday and Wednesday year-round. Friday Nature Walks are available March-September. Walks begin at 9:00 am. Please meet your guide at the site. Adults: $5.00 , Ages 8-18: $3.00, $25.00 max per family

Nature Adventure from Jekyll Island Fun Tours
The eco-friendly Fun Tour on the Segway® PT allows you to glide along the trails and personally witness this truly unique area. Our educated guide will point out the plant and animal lifeas you stop to observe the sights.

Riding the Segway® PT feels like nothing you've ever experienced because there's never been anything like it. Step on and your instinct will be to steady yourself, as you would on anything with two wheels. But almost immediately you'll realize that the Segway PT is balancing for you, almost like it has become an extension of you. Just lean forward a little and you'll see that the Segway PT isn't moving you on its own; it's moving in response to you and what you tell it to do. It all feels natural and really cool.

Jekyll Island Golf Cart Nature Tours

Explore Jekyll Island's Golf Courses "Fore" a Birding and Nature Adventure. You don't have to be a golfer to enjoy the beautiful courses of Jekyll Island. The golf courses on Jekyll Island abound with native species of animals and plants. Explore the lives and habitats of egrets, herons, deer and raccoon, turtles, frogs and many more island creatures.
Available Wednesdays at 5:30pm (times subject to change) June -September.

Tours will be led by Lydia C. Thompson (Wild Bird Unlimited Nature Shop's Chief Naturalist and Artist-in-Residence), or visiting naturalists. Don't forget your camera and binoculars!

Tidelands Nature Center
Tidelands Nature Center offers hands- on marine environmental science programs for the general public and school groups. Stop in to meet a young sea turtle, alligators, fish, hermit crabs, snakes, and other animals native to Georgia's coast!! Take a guided kayak tour of Jekyll Creek, or rent a canoe and enjoy a relaxing paddle on Rixen pond. Nature walks available throughout the year. Learn about Jekyll's coastal ecosystems.
