It’s bands, beach and buddies this year at the 30th annual Beach Music Festival! The oceanfront three-day concert showdown has been a Jekyll Island staple for three decades and this year promises to continue its legacy of bringing the funk and the fun.
This year’s summer staple event will be held August 16 to 18 at the newly renovated Great Dunes Park and Jekyll Island Convention Center, with a line-up of regional bands to grace the seaside stage and several dance-filled events for guests. Starting off the weekend-long festival is the Shag-A-Ganza Party, presented Thursday night by the Golden Isles Shag Club. Dancers will gather at the Jekyll Island Convention Center to dance the night away with friends new and old.
The music-laced fun continues on Friday with an Afternoon Social followed by the Welcome to the Weekend Party, set to the beach music backdrop courtesy of the Craig Woolard band. A day-long beach concert blast on Saturday will showcase an array of regional music talents, including the Jimmy Buffet inspired Sons of Sailors band and the crowd favorite Second Chance Band. Rounding out the music extravaganza is the evening’s beachside concert and party, with more beach favorite including Shag Attack, the Fantastic Shakers and DJ Joey Warren.
Before heading home Sunday morning, guests can attend the gospel hour concert as well as breakfast buffet, and have their “survivor picture” taken as a souvenir.
When you’re not moving and shaking in the sand, lace up those dancing shoes and get ready to hit the floor. Dancing experts will be on hand Thursday, Friday and Saturday to lead a variety of dance classes inside the Jekyll Island Convention Center. Attendees can opt in to beginner, intermediate and advanced dancing classes to hone their skills in both Carolina shag and line dancing.
For guests looking to take in each and every event, purchase a VIP Package, which includes access to all concerts, activities and dance lessons, plus the exclusive VIP Tent at the Saturday Beach Blast Concert. The VIP Tent includes lunch and drinks on the shaded Great Dunes Park Beach Deck.
Weekend tickets, as well as individual day passes, are also available.
Bring your beach blanket, picnic basket, and flip flops and come dance in the sand all weekend long! For a complete schedule, ticket information and lodging, visit the Jekyll Island Beach Music Festival web site at http://www.jekyllisland.com/Events/AnnualFestivals/BeachMusicFestival.
